The key to
maintaining a successful wardrobe is to
consistently follow a few simple steps. Your
work begins before you even purchase your
clothing. Ideally, each one of the steps will
become an easy part of your wardrobe shopping
and upkeep experience.
Initially, you will need to consider how much
effort you want to put into the laundering of
your clothing purchase. Whether or not your home
boasts ample drying space, a dry cleaners is
located nearby either home or work, or you or
some other family member have lots of time, all
play into your decision making process.
Keep in mind that the number one rule is to
check the labels on the clothing before you make
your purchase. It is generally a good idea to
steer away from the first four, unless you have
a maid or still live at home with mom.
If the tag reads:
 |
Line Dry only -
Pass this one by, unless you have ample
drying space.
|
 |
Lay flat to dry -
Again; pass this one by, unless you have
ample drying space and the time.
|
 |
Dry Clean -
Generally, pass this one by, unless a
dry cleaners is located nearby home,
daycare or work. Occasionally, this
purchase is acceptable, provided that
you are up to using a home dry cleaning
kit or willing to risk tossing the
outfit into a delicate and quick wash
cycle. |

Dry clean only -
Pass this one by, unless a dry cleaners
is located nearby home, daycare or work.
Occasionally, this purchase is
acceptable, provided that you are up to
using a home dry cleaning kit. Never use
the washer if the label reads Dry Clean
Only. |
 |
Delicate, cold, or
warm wash-This is always a good
purchase. It is simple and easy care.

The second important step
that you must follow is to have some semblance
of organization for your outfits. Organize your
closets and bureaus for maximum effectiveness in
dressing to present the picture that says a
thousand words.
Follow a pattern that is
conducive to blending the outfits quickly and
easily. It may sound a bit like an
obsessive-compulsive behavior, but it really
does facilitate the dreaded early morning rush
to dress. When your eyes are still half closed
and your limbs pretend they belong to someone
else, a color coordinated wardrobe presenting
the rich, bold hues, delicate, neutral colors,
and the basic blacks and browns together is well
worth the effort it took to create it.
Here are a few additional tips.
Remember the importance of basic, neutral colors
and the ease with which you can combine them.
Purchase a variety of footwear and handbags to
provide you with all of your needs- both the
elegant and the practical. Keep in mind when
your body shape changes, its time to clean out
your closet. Less stressed is better dressed!
